DIET TIPS FOR ARTHRITIS

Arthritis is inflammation in the joint which leads to pain and stiffness. Following tips will help treat arthritis:

  1. Cooking oil

Extra virgin olive oil is loaded with heart-healthy fats, as well as oleocanthal, which has properties similar to non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs. But it’s not the only oil with health benefits. Avocado and safflower oils have shown cholesterol-lowering properties, while walnut oil has 10 times the omega-3s that olive oil has.

 

  1. Soybeans

Try heart-healthy soybeans (tofu or edamame). Soybeans are also low in fat, high in protein and fiber and an all-around good-for-you food.

 

  1. Garlic

Garlic helps to enhance the function of certain immune cells to help strengthen the immune system.  Also, has an anti-inflammatory effect that may help decrease symptoms of arthritis.

 

  1. Broccoli

Broccoli also contains important components that could help reduce symptoms of arthritis. Sulforaphane is a compound found in broccoli. Study also found that sulforaphane could reduce the production of certain inflammatory markers that contribute to rheumatoid arthritis

  1. Walnuts

Walnuts are nutrient-dense and loaded with compounds that may help reduce the inflammation associated with joint disease.

 

  1. Spinach

Leafy greens like spinach are full of nutrients, and some of their components may actually be able to help decrease inflammation caused by arthritis.

 

  1. Dairy products

Low-fat dairy products, like milk, yogurt and cheese are packed with calcium and vitamin D, both found to increase bone strength. Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption, and it has been shown to boost the immune system. If dairy doesn’t agree with you, aim for other calcium and vitamin D-rich foods like leafy green vegetables.
